Albert Rivera Jr

End of Watch January 22, 2009

I am very sad to announce the death of long time NLPOA member Albert Rivera, Jr., of the San Gabriel, CA Valley Chapter. Albert lost his long battle with cancer and was called home by God yesterday. I have known Albert, his beautiful wife Rene, and their daughters for many years and am very saddened about their loss. My heart aches, as does theirs, and I am sure many of you will be in great pain when you read about this news.

Please keep Albert and his family in your prayers this evening and in the upcoming days and months. Memorial services are pending and Lupe Barrera will pass on the details as soon as the arrangements are finalized. In closing, I want to say that if the NLPOA was comprised solely of men and women of the same character as Albert, we would be light years ahead. Albert was a champion for the less fortunate in our community, for troubled youth, and for the NLPOA, and I am grateful to know he is no longer suffering. I

challenge each and every one of you, to honor Albert and his memory, by always putting the mission of the NLPOA and the well being of the communities we serve, and the families we love, above self.

With Deepest Regret and a heavy heart,

ART ACEVEDO, National President
Chief of Police, Austin Police Department
