Officer Federico Borjas

End of Watch October 15, 2008

SDPD Officer Federico Borjas was a member of the color guard team and SWAT team for many years and recently received orders to redeploy back to Afghanistan for his reserve duty for U.S.M.C. He left last month. Late last night, while working a security check point, Officer Borjas was shot by a rebel assassin.

He was working the checkpoint post when a local Border Patrol uniformed officer came up the post. They have been working together as a security force. The uniform officer was not an officer but actually local rebel in a stolen BP uniform. The rebel shot Rico point blank and he died last night.

His parents reside in Orlando and he has sole custody of his 11 year old daughter in San Diego. Officer Rico was a member of the NLPOA- SD Metro Chapter and worked all the color guard events for the NLPOA installations and conferences. He also made sure to work all the Cesar Chavez Parades and Gala events. Just before he left, Rico and I talked about his career plans for when he returned. He vowed to start working on his Sgt. preparation and hopefully become an NLPOA board member when he returned. Please keep Rico and his family in your thoughts and prayers. May he rest in peace!
