This year the NLPOA Fresno County Chapter donated over $1,000 worth of school supplies to Malaga Elementary School, Fresno, CA in honor of a former teacher, Maria Santos Huerta. Ms. Huerta was a teacher at Malaga for over 30 years and a friend of NLPOA Fresno County. She passed away earlier this year. The school supplies were presented to the students on August 28, 2017 during a school assembly. Principal Luisa Custodio Lopes introduced the NLPOA Fresno County members and President Ruben Diaz, who provided a few remarks about NLPOA and its goals.

Fowler Unified School District Superintendent Eric Cedarquist, Assistant Superintendent Scott Griffin and Associate Superintendent Lori Gonzalez attended the event. Also present were the three sisters of Ms. Huerta; Martha Arreavola, Petra Vallejo and Maria Elena Flores, who thanked the NLPOA Fresno County Chapter for honoring their sister.

The children were pleased with their school supplies, which included footballs, volleyballs, soccer balls, binders, line paper, backpacks and a number of other items necessary for class.
